A year on
Reflections on my first year on Medium
It was on the 6th of November last year that I posted my first-ever article on Medium.
It was a day much like today, a shy spring sun seeking its foothold amongst drizzly skies and winds whistling long into the night.
Before November came to a close, I had 100 followers and expressed my appreciation in a post.
Since then, I have published 73 articles, acquired (to my astonishment) 1.8K followers, written countless responses, clapped until my palms sizzled and even received a little bit of money — all of which I very much appreciate.
I wish to especially thank those who have supported me unwaveringly from the very beginning, those (and you know who you are -:)) who have always found the time to leave a comment, to ask, to email, to recognise the darkness, as well as light … THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!
For my part, I’ve learned many, many things from fellow Medium writers and tried to offer something useful too. Perhaps not always practical, for I am rather short on that particular quality, but at least something genuine … like a warm shawl in winter or like a quilt stitched with love and memories, which to me are the same since my love resides in my memories. It is how I know to have lived.
While the ruthless furnace of the world hisses and burns, stoked ever higher with hatred, rage and corpses.
Let us seek light, however faint, in ourselves and each other.
Poetry, they tell me, won’t save the world.
True, I say. But it might save one soul, and there is a world in every soul.
The most important light is the one we cannot see.
I wish us all the courage to seek it.
