My name is Daniela and I am pleased to welcome you to my site where, from time to time, I publish some of my writings.

I write short stories, poetry, prose and the occasional essay.

All of it written in my second language which I acquired when I first came to New Zealand from Croatia.

The years that followed taught me that deciphering one’s experience of the human condition from one language to another is, above all, a matter of patience.

That and the ability to sit in silence for a long time.

Waiting for an image, a story, a memory to crystalise.

In the words of Flannery O’Connor: ‘I write because I do not know what I think until I read what I say.’

When I am not writing, I earn a living in the public service.
